The summer pool season at Rio Nido Roadhouse is from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend – unless unusually warm or cold weather changes the dates. During the day a lifeguard is always on duty. They offer swim lessons, water aerobics classes, adult lane swimming, evening swimming, and other special water events. Check with the friendly staff to find out what’s happening! Order hots and hams from the outside Snack Bar, or off the restaurant menu for dining on the enclosed outdoor patio.
When’s the last time you played Pee Wee golf? Don’t forget we have our own miniature golf course in Rio Nido, operated by volunteers from the RNHOA, open every Friday & Saturday until Labor Day weekend (6:30-9:30 pm). It’s located on the corner of Rio Nido Road & Canyon 7. The clubhouse serves cold soda, snacks and other family games! $3 Adults / $2 Children.

I have lived in Rio Nido for 10 years, and in that time have seen lots of changes in our community. Some of them I’ve been involved with personally and others I’ve watched with pride and a warm heart. The one thing I’ve come to realize is that progress is the result of hard work and investment by people. There are wonderful things happening in Rio Nido, and I want to be a participant and give something back to this little village I call home I hope the FRN board will give me that opportunity.

If I were elected to the Friend’s of Rio Nido Board, I would push to expand the work the Board has done to date. Specifically to improve Rio Nido’s standing and perception as a vibrant Russian River community that truly reflects the idea that when you come to Rio Nido, you just visited a little bit of paradise. Some ideas to that end…
More community involvement.
A better understanding from a larger group of Rio Nido residents about what they care about through simple questionnaires may help guide board/community activities that capture more interest and involvement.
More outreach to folks outside Rio Nido to promote the good stuff going on here to combat some of the misperceptions, attract new residents and instill a sense of pride in the community.
Real Estate agents, news outlets outside of Sonoma County, ets.
Expand clean up and beautification activities to be more rewarding to residents rather than a chore.
I.e. add a “Next Door Neighbor Day/Week/Month”. Sort of like an old-fashioned barn-raising day where neighbors helped build a barn for a local farmer. Helps beautify Rio Nido and builds a sense of community. Could be simple like painting a porch, planting flowers, fixing a fence, etc.
I’d like to use my 20+ years experience in marketing at some of the worlds largest ad agencies (McCann-Erickson, Saatchi & Saatchi, JWT), CNET Networks (sold to CBS), Meebo (sold to Google) and others to truly make a difference in how both people who live in Rio Nido and the outside world feel/perceive Rio Nido.

Another round of thanks to the folks who stored the sign for us all these years… Larry and Elena most recently (for a year or more, whilst we sorted out funding, grant applications, and various committee processes). And even more unbelievably, for more than twenty years Vicki and Jim Cronander stored the sign in their little wooden shed, waiting for the right opportunity to have it return to use in our community.
The sign is installed and we’re having a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, April 18th at 1pm at the site where the new sign will be installed (along River Road, between Canyon 7 and Rio Nido Roads). Join if you can!

The Rio Nido Homeowners Association was established almost 50 years ago to build and maintain the Homeowners’ “volunteer” park and serve this community through sponsoring community events, supporting parks, seniors, improvements, toward the goal of a safe, secure and friendly Rio Nido. PeeWee Golf is a highlight of our park and a favorite of children of all ages. The Association also provided $6,000 to fund the equipment for the Rio Nido community playground.
The quarterly newsletter, the Reporter, has always been a key Association effort. The newsletter keeps members updated on Association activities, local events, local news and feature articles of interest to our members. Membership is $15/year.
FRI 3 APR 6:00 pm ~ Willie Perez kicks off our new “First Friday” with his folk, blues and pop! Come eat dinner to his soothing sounds and even dance a little if you wish. Asking $3 donation. SAT 4 APR 6:00 pm ~ Find the fun Fargo Brothers on our indoor “stage” with rock, blues, rock & roll, and their originals. There’s no Fargo in the band and the guys aren’t brothers, though they act it sometimes! SUN 5 APR 9:00 am ~ Easter Day at the RNR is always remembered for its wonderful Brunch, the Annual Peep Fling Competition, and the Diorama contest. OH, and the hilarious Easter Egg Hunt and other kid contests! Come on out for a really great family fun day! Have you noticed how beautiful the lawn looks right now? It’s still green from that last bit of rain we had–but it won’t look like that for long. In the interest of conserving water, we will do our part and not pour that precious liquid onto the lawn. We will save 1000’s of gallons, really. We’d rather have it in the pool than on the lawn. Bear with us and/or pray for rain!

1st Fridays is a new event at the RNR. We’ll have a small group or solo musician doing acoustic sets on the first Friday of each month–jazz, blues, pop, folk. We ask a $3 donation for the musicians. It’ll be a cool addition to our Friday evenings!

All this week is Restaurant Week. We are offering some mighty nice meals at lunch and dinner during the event. The kitchen would love to feed you! Then we have The THUGZ on the 14th, to be followed by Mike & Sylvia (of the THUGZ) on the 17th in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Brad will have the kitchen going with corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, etc. to celebrate. Captain Paisley is next on the 21st, with the great music you love from Woodstock and the Fillmore. Next up is D’Giin on Sunday, March 22. What a fabulous weekend with two original bands!
